IDE Ltd of Cheshire, sprang into action on the 20th October 2014 in the middle of Hurricane Gonzalo to help sister company Dover Vanguard get Tesco Stores Click and Collect ready to open with roller shutters in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Dover Vanguard currently supply the new N35 Aluminium Roller Shutter and Steel Roller Shutters for all the new Click and Collect pods that are being rolled out by Tesco across the United Kingdom. The pods are designed to offer storage for customers’ online orders that they can collect by simply driving up to the area and having it loaded into the back of their car. Security is provided by both a manually operated N35 Aluminium Roller Shutter and an electrically operated Steel Roller Shutter that keeps the pod secure when not in use.
The latest delivery of a completed pod saw external contractor transportation damage to the unit that would have caused a major delay in the opening of this service in Belfast, something that Tesco was keen to avoid. This is where Industrial Door Engineering sprang into action, manufacturing a new steel roller shutter in our factory, this was then Powder Coated in RAL10B19 Cream before being loaded onto one of our 24hr emergency response vehicles and taken to Birkenhead to catch the 10pm Ferry to Belfast.
As our team of Door Engineers Alan Bellamy and Joe Tomkinson settled in for the night time crossing they knew they had a small window of opportunity to remove the old Roller Shutter before the pod opened to the customers at 9am in the morning. Landing in Belfast at 6am, our team arrived at the Tesco store, removed the old Roller Shutter, installed and commissioned the new Shutter and managed to make it back to the Ferry Port to embark back on the very same Ferry they had crossed over on for the 9:30am crossing back to Birkenhead.
This alone would have been a fantastic achievement for any company, however carrying out all of the above in the middle of 100mph winds due to Hurricane Gonzalo hitting the UK makes it truly exceptional. The end result was a very happy Tesco in Belfast and two very tired Door Engineers arriving back in the UK on the Tuesday evening.
