Dock Levellers Specification

Dock levellers are used to form a safe, obstruction-free and user-friendly bridge between the floor of a building and the loading floor of a truck. A leveller makes it possible to drive continuously in and out of the truck for the purpose of loading or unloading

Specification/construction

The leveller is built up of the following components:
  • a box casing with chassis beams
  • a deck with an integrated extending lip
  • a hydraulic system for manouvering deck and lip consisting of a drive unit, two deck cylinders and a lip cylinder
  • a control box with push button control

    Material
The box is made of 4 mm thick steel plate. The tread plate is made of steel plate with a tear-drop anti-slip surface and is reinforced on the underside by steel beams.

    Finish
All structural parts are sprayed in RAL 5013 (cobalt blue) or RAL 9005 (black) as standard.

    Drive unit
The deck is operated by two hydraulic cylinders and the extending lip by one. The low pressure hydraulic drive is mounted under the deck.

    Controls
The control box houses a PCB and is fitted with control buttons on the front panel. The control box is mounted as standard at a height of 1500 mm beside the door opening.

    Operation
Located on the panel of the control box are:
  • push button "raise deck"
  • push button "lower deck"
  • push button "extend lip"
  • push button "retract lip"
  • a main switch/emergency stop

  • Safety
  • power failure safety (the deck remains stationary when power supply is restored)
  • automatic emergency stop
  • hose rupture safety
  • through distortion of the deck (torsion) the lip will make contact over the width of the loading floor of trucks even when they are not level
  • toeguards
  • yellow/black safety markings
  • maintenance safety strut
  • emergency stop switch on the control panel
    Mounting structure requirements and connection
These depend on the installation method that has been chosen:
  • embedding of the box casing directly in concrete (with or without letterbox)
  • installation in a pre-formed concrete pit
  • as above, but with the work floor poured at a later stage
  • installation in prefabricated concrete elements (these can be supplied by Novoferm)
  • power supply must be present within 500 mm of the control box

  • Working drawings are available for the various installation methods

  • heavy duty rubber bumpers
  • "box" model for concrete embedding
  • threaded bushes for concrete embedding for fixture of the rubber bumpers
  • hot galvanised mounting plates for the rubber bumpers

  • semi-automatic return to neutral position
